Here are some news from STRATI2010 (the 4th "French" Congress on Stratigraphy), Monday 30 August - Thursday 2 September (at the UPMC, Paris 6).
We expect from 300 to 400 people from all over the world (a majority from Europe and North Africa, but also from Iran, Qatar, USA, Mexico, Korea, Madagascar, ...) and the congress will cover the several aspects of the stratigraphy (bio-, litho-, ... and others: chemio-, magnéto-, cyclo-) and the whole stratigraphic column (as in addition to the French Committee on Stratigraphy, 7 stratigraphic associations will lead dedicated sessions on the Cretaceous, the Cenozoic, the Paleozoic, the Permian and the Triassic, the Jurassic, ...). Some industrial sponsors will be there too (oil industry and energy companies, service companies, ...) and a dedicated forum with representatives from TOTAL, BRGM and Schlumberger will be open to students and young geologists.

http://paleopolis.rediris.es/STRATI2010/Strati2010.jpgWe upgraded the PayPal option to register to STRATI2010 as we first exceeded the original maximum authorized amount and as a result the account was blocked for almost a week. The early paiement deadline was then extended from May 1st to May 16th ... (ACTUALLY to the 21st ... in order to allow the paiement to be validated), after which fees will increase by 33 or 50% (and may not cover/include lunches), see
http://paleopolis.rediris.es/STRATI2010/RF.htmlRegistration will remain open till the opening day of the congress ...
We also fixed a bug who made it difficult for some people to post their abstracts on the server (it was caused by the firewall setting!)
It is still feasible to submit abstracts as the deadline was also extended from May 15th to May 31st.
Some abstracts are already online (much more are still under review by their respective session directors):

I would be my pleasure to seeing you in Paris.
